Corsica Linea — History & Background
Corsica Linea was officially established on 5 January 2016, following the receivership and collapse of SNCM — Société Nationale Maritime Corse Méditerranée — which had operated similar Mediterranean routes for decades. When SNCM was placed in receivership in November 2015, its assets subsequently passed to Maritime Corse Méditerranée (MCM). A consortium of companies known as Corsica Marittima then founded Corsica Linea, acquiring the ships and routes and giving the company a fresh start with new ownership, new colours, and a renewed commitment to quality service. In February 2016, Corsica Linea merged with MCM, consolidating operations under a single brand. The new company adopted a striking red, white, and black livery featuring the iconic Moor’s head — the symbol of the Corsican flag — as its logo. In 2018, the company relocated its headquarters from Marseille to Ajaccio, closer to the communities it serves. That same year, Corsica Linea signed a temporary agreement with La Méridionale to charter the ferry Piana for the Marseille–Porto Vecchio route. In 2019, Corsica Linea ordered its first brand-new vessel — A Galeotta — from the Italian shipyard Cantiere Navale Visentini. Delivered in January 2023, A Galeotta is the first LNG-powered ferry operating between Marseille and Corsica, representing a major milestone in the company’s €450 million energy transition programme. Furthermore, in January 2024, Corsica Linea signed a contract with Stena RoRo for a second new LNG-powered E-Flexer vessel, which entered service in March 2026 on the Marseille–Ajaccio and Bastia routes.
